Why this petition matters

Started by Claire Brenner

OCC deny the reality that a small number of disabled children, in particular autistic children who have suffered trauma at school, need to be educated outside school settings (EOTAS - education other than at school). OCCs actions are unlawful, are wasting public funds, destroy families and are harming vulnerable children. OCC are harming these children by refusing EOTAS forcing families to appeal to tribunal. Then, after months of delay when it is granted by a judge, OCC do not implement the tribunal decision, leading to many more months of lost education and further trauma. Moreover, OCC will pay barristers to appeal tribunal decisions despite overwhelming evidence from professionals that it is needed. To our knowledge no appeal has ever succeeded. When the do implement EOTAS they hand parents thousands of pounds via personal budgets without giving them any support or advice.  Stop denying the reality of our children’s disabilities and start supporting families who need EOTAS properly.
