Why this petition matters

Gov. Tom Wolf has proposed to put Chester County’s large animal hospital out to pasture. The governor’s budget removes all $30 million of state funding to the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, which includes the 700-acre Kennett Square campus known as the New Bolton Center. This budget has yet to be approved by legislature. We need to stop it!!

Penn Vet's New Bolton Center provides an internationally renowned standard of care. Located on a campus of some 700 acres in Chester County, Pennsylvania, New Bolton Center has one of the largest caseloads of any academic large animal hospital in the nation. They provide both inpatient and outpatient services, handling nearly 4,900 large animal patient visits in the hospital. In addition the Field Service treats more than 38,000 patients on local farms. This hospital provides top of the line and innovative veterinary medicine for horses, cows, goats, pigs, and other large animals. In addition, it is directly responsible for training future large animal veterinarians. De-funding of this hospital would result in its demise without very large donors; this would be extremely detrimental to veterinary medicine as a whole let alone the hundreds of lost jobs! Please find another way to balance the state budget without destroying UPenn!
