Why this petition matters

Uniform laws must be intoduced in all Australian states and territories to ban the carrying of weapons in public places by civilians.

Recently a mob of Khalistanis, armed with swords, car-jacked the car of some youths sitting in a car. The youths had committed no crime. The armed Khalistanis forced the youths to participate in a recording. During the episode, members of the Khalistani cult committed the offences of kidnapping, robbery and malicious wounding. Despite being in possession of overwhelming evidence, police have failed to lay a single charge.

At a Khalistani event at Melbourne on 29 January 2023, a militia affiliated to the banned terrorist outfit - Sikhs For Justice carried out a surprise attack on a group of Indians who were walking peacefully with Indian flags on a public road and complying with police directions. The militia were carrying swords, metal poles, sticks and other weapons. Victorian Police were unable to control the militia.

In Sydney, a school-boy had sustained grevious injuries when he was attacked by a Sikh student with a kirpan.

On another occasion, a man's arm was nearly severed in a sword attack at a Brisbane Gurdwara.

There are reports that swords are now even being sold in grocery stores.

Unless strict laws are introduced, it is only a matter of time before an Australian is killed by one of these weapons.

In a civilised society, weapons must only be allowed in the hands of trained law enforcement officers, not hooligans.

The religious practices of Sikhs can appropriately be accomodated by the following exemption:

  1. Sikhs are permitted to carry a kirpan;
  2. The kirpan must be no bigger than 8.5 centimetres, with no sharp edges or points; and
  3. The kirpan must be worn under clothing.
