SAVE LIVES ON SHAMROCK ROAD! CAYMAN ISLANDS GOVERNMENT MUST ACT NOW – INSTALL TRAFFIC CALMING MEASURES AND ENFORCE ROAD SAFETY.

Residents on and off the almost 2 mile ‘Spotts Straight’ are affected daily when they have to deal with the fast pace of traffic and dysfunctional driving, as do the tens of thousands of people coming to and from the Eastern districts.

Without immediate action more lives are at risk – it’s not a case of IF, it’s a case of WHEN the next person will die or be seriously injured; the impact on friends and families is devastating.

We need the following to act now:

•          RCIPS: Enforce traffic laws, more police presence to encourage road safety island wide. More CCTV locations on this 'hot spot' for collisions.

•          NRA (and Dept of Planning): Traffic calming measures including but not limited to – reducing the speed limit from 40mph to 30mph, Speed Check cameras, rumble strips, possible mini round-about in a key Crown owned locations to shorten the ‘racetrack’.

•          Public Transport Board: Improve bus to a night service AND decrease outrageous taxi rates to make it more affordable for those in the Eastern districts.

•          Dept of Tourism: Better traffic and pedestrian access when ships are in Spotts Dock/Landing and address the dangers facing tourists and locals when exiting Spotts Beach.

•          Our local representatives: Hon Sabrina Turner (Prospect) and Hon Wayne Panton (Savannah) to take these measures to cabinet and get them passed.
