Fighting the climate crisis with eco-pacifism

 

Past

The end of the Cold War, with the collapse of the Soviet Union, would have justified the closure of NATO and allowed for a radical nuclear disarmament, if the winner USA where haven't used its power for overwhelmingly, with the excuse of exporting democracy all over the world, causing increasingly world refractory not only till 11 September 2001, but even after.

In particular, Russia, with other states that could oppose the Western dominance of the "End of History'', such as China, Iran, etc., have been confined and sanctioned, Europe prevented from trading with them, for fear of being isolated from the Superpower and therefore for its convenience.

On the other hand, history shows that wars and imperialism are not exclusive to dictatorships, but rather production of nationalism as well as business affairs, as it exists also all over the world.

In fact, democracy can provide balances of power that prevent the catastrophes of dictatorships, but do not guarantee good functioning and is incapable of dismissing corrupt and warlike governments.

In the meantime, our democracy in West has not presented itself morally well, if we remember Berlusconi and Trump and above all many nationalist, xenophobic, chauvinist, racist and fascistoid parties, including the actual first Italian party.

Pacifism has relegated to a utopia, due to the self-defense complex, supported by the military economic interest of individual nations.

Ecology also fails to overcome national constraints, to achieve the economies of scale necessary to tackle the global climate crisis.

 

Present

The Ukrainian war concentrates again on nationalism and imperialism, with war-like ideologies that recall the origin of the First World War rather than the Second, and, in addition to particularly damaging Europe, it raises the risks of a combination of global extinction: nuclear and/or climatic.

 

Future

In perspective, the main cause of geopolitical conflicts must be removed. And the national resources should be globalized for human ecological growth.

Faced with the risk of extinction due to World War III, before the climate crisis, it is advisable to consider the opportunity to prohibit weapons, starting from nuclear arsenals, and to convert the current military apparatuses to the equally lucrative fight against pollution and global warming.

It is illusory that this initiative can be entrusted to national governments, with the parties fearful of popolist opinions, but it should be demanded by a supranational ECO-PACIFIST movement to be entrusted to a ONU Agency for World Security. This agency can pay, gather and put all research on the world wide ecosystems and oblige the nation countries and their investors in weapons, to switch to ecological challenges, continuing to earn money.

 

Conclusion

Vote for the ecological movement to become eco-pacifist, to exploit the military apparatuses as an antidote to the climate crisis.
