Why this petition matters

Founded in 1830, Mormonism is the most successful American religious movement established during slavery.  Naturally, their early years reflected the social customs of that era.

The LDS Church brought slavery to Utah and banned blacks from the priesthood until the late 20th century.

To be fair, the LDS Church has recently spoken out against racism and partnered with the NAACP.  Yet, the LDS Church aggressively promotes "white Jesus" in Africa and their new official symbol is a pure white Jesus inspired by a Nordic sculpture.

The image of an impossibly white Savior is a barrier to racial justice. Call on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to stop propagating “white Jesus” in Africa.
