Why this petition matters

Started by Crystal Baker

My friend Joey and I are amongst many other movie-goers who love a good movie theater experience. We love the unique experience that Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas offer, but unfortunately, there isn't one in our city of Sacramento. This petition is to request the establishment of an Alamo Drafthouse Cinema here in our vibrant city.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas are known for their strict policy of maintaining a quiet atmosphere during movies, gourmet food offerings, and special events like sing-alongs or quote-alongs. They provide a unique cinematic experience that we believe would be appreciated by many Sacramentans.

According to Statista, as of 2019, there were approximately 5.15 million cinema-goers in California alone (Statista). Given Sacramento's population of over 500 thousand people (U.S Census Bureau), it's reasonable to assume that a significant number would enjoy having this innovative cinema option available locally.

We believe that having an Alamo Drafthouse Cinema here will not only enrich our cultural scene but also contribute positively to local businesses and job opportunities.

Please join us in urging the management team at Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas to consider establishing a location here in Sacramento. Sign this petition if you want to bring this unique cinematic experience closer home!

As someone with an intellectual disability, having an Alamo Drafthouse in Sacramento would mean a lot to you. Alamo Drafthouse is committed to providing a safe, respectful, inclusive, and fun environment for everyone to enjoy movies and events ¹. They have a Code of Conduct that applies to everyone at the venue and participants in their social media channels. Guests, staff, volunteers, vendors, and press will be held to the same standards. They do not tolerate harassment of any kind, including: intimidation or threats, inappropriate disruption of events, hurtful language, physical assault of any type, inappropriate physical contact, unwanted sexual attention, unwanted photography or video recording, bullying or stalking, especially in connection to race or ethnicity, national origin, gender identity or presentation, sex or sexual orientation, age, disability, medical condition or pregnancy, religion, and citizenship status ¹. If you experience or witness any form of harassment, you can contact the nearest staff member, and a manager will address the situation ¹.

Alamo Drafthouse also offers services to people with disabilities. They have wheelchair-accessible seating, assistive listening devices, and closed captioning devices ¹. They also have a policy that allows service animals to accompany guests with disabilities ¹.

In addition, Alamo Drafthouse has a Costume Policy that allows guests to attend screenings in costume. However, they expect cosplayers to be responsible and respectful, and their fun can't be at the expense of affecting the experience of other guests. Guests in costume are subject to search at the discretion of theater staff at any time, and the management reserves the right to refuse entry for any reason ¹.

Overall, having an Alamo Drafthouse in Sacramento would mean that you can enjoy movies and events in a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment, with access to services and accommodations that cater to your needs if you have a disability.
