Reverse the Restriction on Overseas Care Workers' Dependents in the UK
Reverse the Restriction on Overseas Care Workers' Dependents in the UK
Why this petition matters
The Care Workers Union (CWU) is deeply concerned about the recent changes to immigration rules announced by the Secretary of State for Home Office on 5th December 2023. These changes restrict overseas care workers from bringing their dependents, including their children, to live with them in the UK. This decision directly impacts our members who are tirelessly working to provide essential care services across the country.
The CWU is a unique trade union that focuses solely on supporting and advancing rights and working conditions for social care workers in the UK. We believe that these new restrictions not only affect our members' personal lives but also have potential implications for their work performance due to increased stress and anxiety.
It's important to note that according to data from Skills for Care, there were approximately 1.52 million jobs in adult social care in England as of 2019/20 (source: Skills for Care - The state of adult social care sector and workforce in England). A significant proportion of these roles are filled by overseas workers who now face being separated from their families due to this change.
We urge you, as Secretary of State for Home Office, to reconsider this decision which affects not just our members but also potentially disrupts an already strained social care system. Please support us by reversing this change allowing overseas caregivers' dependents into UK again. Sign this petition today!
