We represent people of the horn of Africa and international community that condemn the safe harboring of Haile Mengistu by Zimbabwe. Mengistu’s genocidal Marxist regime led to the killing of 500,000-2,000,000 Eritreans, Somalis, and Ethiopians during his time of rule from 1972-1991. Human rights watch describes his movement the red terror as "one of the most systematic uses of mass murder by a state ever witnessed in Africa." Over the course of his 17 years of genocidal rule a short list of crimes committed include systematic starvation, inserting heavy objects into a woman’s uterus, strangling with cord, injection of poison, electric shock, extrajudicial killings of students, intellectuals, and politicians. Mengistu was found guilty in absentnia in 2006 for his crimes against humanity in Ethiopia. For nearly close to 30 years, Mengistu has been granted asylum in Zimbabwe living freely without consequences for his actions.  The previous leaders of Zimbabwe gave the genocidal killer a safe haven, we are requesting this be immediately revoked. We are calling for the current new leadership of Zimbabwe to stand against the heinous crimes committed against their African brothers by Mengistu. We are calling for Mengistu to be exiled from Zimbabwe. The Interational crimes court must prosecute him for war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
