Why this petition matters

Connery is dying. It is a painful fact to realize this, as more and more of the population of the server is moving over to the US East server of Emerald. For context of those who do not know, Connery is the server of the US West. Allow me to introduce myself, most of you know me as my handle BlackDragonSolar, of the outfit [404]. I am not a long-standing Connery member by any means, but it is where I started. From the days of Beta to present day, with a large gap of inactivity in between.

Connery is a server that had sunk countless hours of an even more countless throng of people. Dedication of time and memories that are held present along with a history of some of the most skilled players of PlanetSide's Oceania and North, Central, and South American population. The fights have died on Connery leaving Emerald to be the main location of refuge, which leaves everyone to start over from scratch once more: Leading to burnout of some dedicated players and turning them away from the game they had loved. To this day, I have sunk over a thousand hours of playtime in this game, only dwarfed by sixty-eight hours by Team Fortress two, and another thousand from Final Fantasy XIV.

So much character data, outfit history and the like remains to be be at the precipice of this tip of an iceberg, set to fall off the cliff. But what if I said there is perhaps, a way to keep going.

Down in Texas, a huge DNS data hub is currently in the process of being created. For PlanetSide 2 to continue survival while also causing players that are a bit more casual to keep their hard work and data: I propose with this petition, and any who may support it, to bring the game down for a few days if at all possible, and merge the US East and US West servers to find a centralised point that would enable relatively stable connection for players involved. No one would lose their progress, and it would cause the communities to still be present. As the servers run on the same API, this makes it so there are no character name, outfit name, or outfit tag conflicts that happen in turn. Old friends would reunite, along with old foes. But most importantly, the community could stand to gain having the population in this centralised server, with little to lose.

Were Connery's data to be die and were the server to be scrubbed, that would be the end of seeing the game as a viable option to spend time on for [404]. To move on from our roots would be a sad day in its entirety, although [404] would still function as a community: It would be a lamentation of loss were Connery and our PlanetSide data to be added to our Records of a Bygone Era, or archive for the community.

Which is why I ask of you, who may be reading this right now. If you support this idea, if you want to see the servers merged, so we as a playerbase can play the game out to a blaze of glory, however long that may last? To set the grand stage of this game with its iconic large battles potentially growing to have at least a thousand people during the night, and countless more during "primetime". Sign this petition, we as of right now, as we speak, of the P4CCN Collective, are currently doing what we can to possibly make this turn to reality.

It will not be easy, but the chances of this happening are not zero. If we drum up more support, we could bring not only more attention to this precipice: But we can also potentially preserve everything and keep our ride for a little longer. The time has come for US West and US East to no longer exist, and simply become one singular US server. Where we all can have our battles as we like. It would also potentially renew interest from previous players of the game. As well as forge new friendships and memories to the people who have been in the server barrier.

I humbly thank you for your time to read this, and I hope you would support us with this endeavour.

Sincerely,

BlackDragonSolar, [404] founder.
