Putting money into a 529 (college savings) account should be an investment in your child's future. It should not be an investment in the destruction of their future!

If you are a NYS 529 Plan holder, you are invested in fossil fuel companies - the very companies that are accelerating the climate crisis while also waging a deliberate campaign of disinformation to undermine climate science and prevent any action to mitigate the crisis.

Institutions that control or influence the flow of substantial amounts of capital need to take swift action now to be part of the solution and be on the right side of history. 

New York City and State have already begun divesting retirement accounts so we know it's possible! It is outrageous that the 529 Plan is lagging behind.

The New York State Comptroller's office has the power to require the state's 529 Plan is fully divested from fossil fuels, or at very minimum require that a fossil free option is offered to concerned parents. 

Soon they will decide if Vanguard will keep the contract to provide the state's 529 plan. Join DivestNY and Climate Families NYC in showing them that there is HUGE support for fossil free 529s - and this requirement MUST be part of any contract they sign with Vanguard or the next provider.
