Why this petition matters

Started by Wendy Klenk

The City of Beverly Hills is killing healthy, 100+ year old trees, because it is the cheapest solution to an alleged problem the City is facing.  The City states the sidewalks are uneven and are a hazard.  Unfortunately, the City of BH has not provided the residents or business owners with any options other than to destroy healthy, living, breathing beneficial trees in Beverly Hills.  These trees have been here long before the development of the city landscape.  We need to protect the trees and the ecosystem these trees create for our environment.  These trees not only beautify our city but they provide necessary habitat for birds and other insects and species that are beneficial for our environment.

Why TREES are necessary for the environment and for the survival of our cities?

"As cities evolve, trees keep us grounded. Trees are powerhouses when it comes to regulating city microclimates — filtering air pollution, providing shade, absorbing CO2, helping prevent flash flooding, as well as acting as an important antidote to the urban heat island effect that makes cities far hotter than surrounding rural areas.  "Trees can make a huge difference to a city's temperature," says Tobi Morakinyo, an urban climatologist at the University College Dublin, whose research into the cooling effect of trees in Akure, southwest Nigeria, showed using trees to shade buildings could cool them down by up to five degrees Celsius."

Other cities have saved their trees...

"Texas city moves 100-year-old tree rather than cut it down. When road construction threatened this 100-year-old, 260-ton oak, League City, Texas stepped up and moved it. "

"North Side Neighbors Seek To Save Their Trees
The city will need to remove trees to replace a water main that’s more than 100 years old. Rosemary Feit, who lives on the block and is seeking alternatives, said "Trees provide a vital and unquantifiable contribution to our neighborhood.”

There are countless stories of residents saving trees from being destroyed due to cities cost cutting measures.  Cities who destroy healthy living trees are short sighted and do not understand the value of these trees or appreciate the value these trees have provided to the communities for the past 100+ years.

PLEASE HELP STOP THE CITY OF BEVERLY HILLS FROM KILLING AND DESTROYING OUR 100+ YEAR OLD TREES.

PLEASE SIGN OUR PETITION SO THAT WE CAN SHOW CITY HALL THE RESIDENTS OF BEVERLY HILLS WANT ANOTHER SOLUTION.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!!!
