The TV show #Station19 is being cancelled and we are fighting to save it!

Station 19 is a Grey’s Anatomy spinoff that focuses on the lives and stories of BIPOC & LGBTQ characters. The representation of diverse races, genders, sexual orientations, and lived experiences is evident in its cast and crew which is rare and desperately needed on TV today. Further, the show expertly tackles multiple social and political issues through award-winning writing that leaves lasting impacts on their viewing audience.

In the upcoming seventh season, Station 19 airs its 100th episode. This is a celebrated landmark for the series committed to public awareness and advocacy. Female characters have faced issues of sexism in the workforce. Multiple character storylines have explored issues of importance to the LGBTQ+ community. Station 19 has also tackled topics related to abuse, sexual assault, women’s reproductive rights, mental health, and grief.

Just this month, the show received the Sentinel Award from Hollywood, Health & Society for its depiction of systemic racism in Season 6.

Disney General Entertainment states that their goal is to make “the best television content to entertain, inform and inspire a global audience. Storytelling is our super-power and we inspire a better world through the power of stories.” As rights are being systematically taken away from women around the world, Station 19 educated the global audience by portraying a main character seeking an abortion in season five and then continued to educate the audience on the issue of fake abortion clinics in season 6. The rights of same-sex couples are also in extreme peril around the world. At the same time, Station 19 has been committed to portraying two female queer series regular characters on the journey from dating, to marriage, to now facing the struggles of expanding their family together.

Station 19 cannot be canceled because these stories must continue to be shared with a global audience. Station 19 provides a safe and welcoming place that allows audiences, young and old, to feel seen and represented. At a time when our rights are being eroded at every turn, finding a home to see ourselves reflected is critical. For many in the global viewing audience, it is their only form of proper representation.

According to an article in Variety , as of April 2023, Station 19 averaged 8.3 million total viewers in Season 6. Ratings for Station 19 jumped nearly 4 times over its initial Live+Same Day rating in adults 18-49 over the course of the last season with an increase of 294% after 35 days of multiplatform viewing. The show ratings are strong and the streaming audience is even stronger.
