Why this petition matters

Started by Kwaku Bonsu

We, the undersigned, strongly object to the recent decision by the UK government to increase the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) from £624 to an astonishing £1,035 per person. This surcharge, initially intended to cover healthcare expenses for migrants in the UK, now resembles a form of double taxation, burdening individuals who already diligently contribute to the nation's welfare through their taxes. It is unjust that immigrants, who fulfill their responsibilities and pay their taxes, are still required to pay the IHS surcharge when renewing their visas.

Current immigrants are valuable members of society, actively supporting the National Health Service (NHS) through their tax contributions. However, this sudden increase not only jeopardizes their financial stability but also deepens the prevailing sense of injustice in the United Kingdom.

We call upon the UK government to rectify this situation by taking out the mandate of IHS Surcharge for tax-paying immigrants. It is time to recognise their significant contributions and ensure they are not burdened with excessive healthcare costs. Let us unite for fairness and equality in the UK. Sign this petition to demand an end to unfair double taxation and protect the financial well-being and rights of tax-paying immigrants.
