Stop whistleblower prosecutions and establish a strong federal ICAC!
Stop whistleblower prosecutions and establish a strong federal ICAC!
Why this petition matters
Demand that the incoming government implement a strong ICAC, legislate strong whistleblower protections and investigate the CDPP
Corruption, prosecutions of innocent men, secret trials! Government must be held accountable!
Bernard Collaery, ‘Witness K’, David McBride and Richard Boyle have been prosecuted for telling the truth about the bugging of the East Timor government offices, war crimes in Afghanistan and the Tax Office's harmful debt recovery practices, respectively. They are men of integrity who should be praised, not jailed! Our system of open justice is under threat.
The case of the secret trial of 'Witness J' is also of major concern. This should not be the pattern for our justice system which must retain the principle of open justice which is at the heart of our democracy.
We call on the incoming government to implement a strong independent commission against corruption to investigate the bugging operation, strong whistleblower protection legislation and investigate the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecution’s (CDPP's) actions against these men.
The petition has been initiated by the Alliance Against Political Prosecutions (AAPP).
