Dear Eli Lilly,

We, the patients whose lives have been transformed by your medications Mounjaro and Zepbound, write to you in a state of distress and with a deep sense of betrayal. The ongoing shortages and widespread unavailability of these medications represent an abhorrent break in the continuation of care that is endangering our health and shattering our trust.

For many of us, Mounjaro and Zepbound have been lifelines. We have finally found medications that effectively manage chronic conditions like type 2 diabetes and obesity, long-term struggles that other treatments had failed to address. Our bodies have responded, our quality of life has improved, and we've witnessed a tangible restoration of hope.

The inability to continue this treatment is nothing short of medical abandonment. We're not simply denied a new medication; we're forced to abruptly halt a therapy that our bodies have come to depend upon. The consequences are dire: blood sugar levels destabilizing, weight gain reversing our hard-won victories, and side effects that jeopardize our overall health.

We acknowledge the unprecedented demand, but the extended duration of these shortages is unacceptable, particularly for a company with your resources and reputation. This disruption in care isn't just an inconvenience; it's a violation of the fundamental patient-provider relationship.

Eli Lilly, we call upon you to act with the urgency this crisis demands. We urge you to:

Prioritize transparency: Be forthright about the true extent of the shortages and provide realistic timelines for when supply might normalize.
Mitigate the damage: Develop solutions specifically for existing patients. This could involve temporary dosage adjustments, compassionate programs, or prioritizing our access to limited supplies.
Exhaust all options to increase production: Seek out new manufacturers, optimize production facilities, and invest aggressively to meet demand.
Work with the FDA: Collaborate to find safe, fast-track solutions that alleviate this crisis without compromising drug integrity.
The progress that we have fought so hard to achieve is now unraveling. We've placed our trust in your commitment to innovation and patient care. Do not forsake us now. Your commitment to innovation means little if it cannot be translated into accessible treatments. We've built our trust in your company and these medications; it is your duty to uphold that trust. Restore the vital continuity of care we desperately need and deserve.

Sincerely,

Patients in Crisis, Demanding Continuity of Care in the medicinal management of chronic illness
