Oxfordshire County Council refusing to communicate with SEN families
Oxfordshire County Council refusing to communicate with SEN families
Why this petition matters
Oxfordshire County Council have failed our family. Their inability to communicate with us regarding the SEN provision our daughter Heidi requires is significant.
Heidi is a bright, caring and incredible 10 year old girl, who as a result of not having her needs met by those who should be looking after her in education, has firstly suffered significant autistic burnout and then experienced a subsequent period of time (1 year+) of no education. Oxfordshire County Council (OCC), having refused to acknowledge the needs Heidi has, making our family go to court and then fail to implement a court order , have acted unlawfully.
This petition is specifically aimed at their refusal to communicate with us as parents of a SEN child. Since a court ordered EOTAS provision in July 2022, we have had one brief phone call with the OCC SEN team. This is despite numerous attempts from us to engage with them for the benefit of our daughter. In fact, the only communication we now receive from them is via a solicitor, a costly (for both parties) and protracted method of communication. This communication is also inconsistent; often unhelpful and nearly always driven by a desire to delay. This is a delay only to the education our daughter deserves, nothing else.
OCC need to start taking accountability, stop breaking the law and start communicating with the parents of the most vulnerable children for whom they have a statutory duty for.
