Why this petition matters

Started by Bill Wolfe

The NJ Pinelands Commission recently approved a "Forest Management Plan" to clearcut 1,300 acres of forests and construct 13 miles of 50 foot wide "firebreaks" in the Pinelands National Reserve. Over 2.4 MILLION trees will be cut and removed.

The 1 million acre NJ Pinelands were the first US National Reserve created by Congress in 1978 and were designated a UN Global Biosphere Reserve because they have rare plants and animals found nowhere else on earth.

The Pinelands forests are the largest block of green space on the eastern seaboard from Boston to Washington DC.

The approval was granted with no review of the climate impacts of this massive logging

The Commission approval can be blocked by Gov. Murphy, who can veto the minutes of the Commission under the Pinelands Act.

Here is a news story that describes this forest massacre:

If 2.4 Million Trees Fall Will Trenton Hear it?

Here  is an Open Letter to the Gov. urging him to veto the minutes:

Please sign on to this petition and contact and call NJ Gov. Murphy's Office at 609-292-6000 and demand that he block this insane clearcut by vetoing the minutes.

The Gov. has until approximately Nov. 20 to act before the plan become approved, so please act now and circulate this petition.
