Why this petition matters

Started by Kaitlyn Turner

Right now the current age requirement for women to get a mammogram is 35 years old. Currently, insurance companies are trying to push the age to age 45 even 50. 1 in 8 women will get breast cancer in their life, with 9%-10% of these cases the woman will be under the age of 40.

Each year more and more younger women are diagnosed and those of color are diagnosed in a later stage. In 2019 at the age of 27, I was diagnosed with stage 2B Triple Negative Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. Even with my family history, the doctors did not want to do tests for cancer but I kept pushing and finally had them agree to the test to get this diagnosis.  And as I have researched there are and have been women younger than me that have been diagnosed.

Every October companies raise money for research but why aren't we fighting for EARLIER prevention and treatment? And this is where my fight and your participation come in. By signing this petition you will be helping fight for the women that came before me, the women who are fighting with me, and the women coming after me. Signing this shows that you support the age limit dropping or even being eliminated so that women can get mammograms earlier to help prevent cancer or catch it in an earlier stage and their insurance pays for it.

Please sign and share and send prayers as I not only fight for my life but fight for the lives of others!!

Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in women. It can be prevented with early detection, and more research needs to be done on this disease. Some of the risk factors include family history, age, and genetics. There are many different types of Breast Cancer such as invasive ductal carcinoma, lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS), inflammatory breast cancer (IBC), medullary carcinoma, and Paget's disease of the nipple.

The current screening process for Breast Cancer is mammography which uses X-rays to examine your breasts for any abnormalities or tumors. The American Cancer Society recommends that women start getting mammograms at age 40 but this isn't always possible due to cost or not having access to a facility near them. Mammograms are also not 100% accurate because they can miss small tumors or detect false positives which cause further testing that may not be necessary after all. There is also a radiation exposure risk when having a mammogram which has been debated over whether it's worth it for early detection since there have been no long-term studies done on its effects on the human body yet but experts say it's safe if you don't have too many each year since your body does absorb some radiation from them even though they're low doses compared to other sources like cell phones and microwaves from appliances etc...

There are other ways besides mammograms that could help detect Breast Cancer earlier such as thermography which measures skin temperature changes due to blood flow through tissues
