As a grandparent of four young children, ages 1, 3, 5 and 6, I am deeply concerned about their future in a world marred by violence and division. The wars instigated by thuggish dictators posing as leaders have resulted in unimaginable harm to innocent lives. These conflicts are not only cruel, but they inflict permanent harm to the children who survive; many with life-altering injuries. 

According to UNICEF, an estimated 420 million children - nearly one-fifth of all children worldwide - are currently living in conflict-affected areas (source: UNICEF). This is a staggering statistic that underscores the urgent need for action. These innocent lives are being disrupted and destroyed by wars they did not create.

 

 

 

Children should be playing happily without fear or worry about their safety. They should be learning in schools without the threat of bombings or shootings. They deserve a safe environment where they can grow into responsible adults who contribute positively to society.

The time has come for all caring people to stand up against these atrocities committed against our future generations under the guise of power struggles and political gain. We must urge the world's leaders to prioritize peace over violence, dialogue over aggression, and love over hatred.

We have to keep in mind that the children who do survive and are orphaned, starved and subject to the privations of war are going to grow up, many with PTSD, many radicalized and as a result will become the fanatical terrorists of the next generation. We will reap what we sow.

Peace is the order of the day but to achieve peace, we have to marginalize the warmongers among us. 

I am an 80 year old grandfather. I was born during World War 2. I learned about the ugliness of war from my father and uncles who survived. Warmongers achieve nothing. They just further the grief the innocent and helpless suffer.
